Potential Theme: 1 Kings 8:1, 6, 10-11, 22-23, 41-43

August 19, 2009

These are the thoughts I have so far for this week’s sermon*:

Theme (What is God doing in the text?): God’s powerful, faithful presence remains with the people.

Need (What is the human need reflected in the text?): We need an intimate connection to and communication with God.

Image (What is the dominant image for the sermon?): The cloud that represents God’s.  Another possibility is the image of sanctuary.

Mission (To what action is the text leading us?): The best relationship with God begins when we seek in humility and are willing to meet God on God’s own terms.

I am not entirely happy with my entry here.  How would you preach this text?  What is the text leading us to do?
